Nurture in Nature is a 10-week programme designed to support people who have received a cancer diagnosis. We started our pilot project with a women’s group, to then extend it to men and/or a mixed gender group, following the needs, feedbacks and requests from the local community. Two freelance nature-connection practitioners and a freelance counsellor with experience in cancer health issues facilitate the group.

We offer a nurturing space where 12 participants gather weekly for 3 hours in a woodland setting at Herstmonceux Castle. The project is fully funded and kindly supported by Macmillan, Sussex Community Foundation and John Jackson Charitable Trust.

Through a blend of woodland crafts, communal cooking on the fire, sharing food and stories, mindfulness activities, and nature walks, we want to provide people attending the opportunity to relax, feel nourished, and build confidence. The project has a holistic approach and aims to foster supportive relationships among participants, offering them a chance to share their experiences and find solace in community. By integrating a therapeutic nature-based recovery approach, the initiative seeks to promote the mental well-being and overall health of people affected by cancer. This project aims to make a meaningful difference by providing a lifeline of support, resilience, and hope to those navigating the challenges of cancer, offering them a pathway towards healing and renewal.

We started the first programme in September 2024.The project aims to run 3 programmes per year (avoiding the coldest months).
